Postpartum Care

Postpartum Care in the Alberni Valley & Pacific Rim

The weeks after birth are a time of recovery, adjustment, and learning to care for your new baby — and you deserve support every step of the way. As a Registered Midwife serving Port Alberni and the surrounding Pacific Rim communities, I provide postpartum care that centres your physical healing, emotional well-being, and your family’s new beginnings.

Comprehensive Postpartum Support

Postpartum visits focus on the health of both you and your baby, and may include:

  • Newborn assessments – monitoring feeding, growth, and overall well-being

  • Parent recovery and healing – physical checks, emotional support, and guidance on rest and recovery

  • Feeding support – help with breastfeeding/chestfeeding, pumping, or bottle-feeding

  • Mental health care – screening for postpartum mood changes and referrals for additional support if needed

  • Contraception and family planning – information and guidance tailored to your needs

  • Referrals – connection to community resources, family physicians, or specialists when required

Home or Clinic Visits

In the first days after birth, I often visit you at home, offering personalized, hands-on care in your own space. Follow-up visits may take place in clinic as you and your baby settle into new routines.

Shared & Collaborative Care

If your birth took place in another community, I can provide local postpartum follow-up care in Port Alberni to support continuity and connection close to home. I also collaborate with physicians, public health nurses, and lactation consultants to ensure you have a full circle of care.

Compassionate, Inclusive Care

Every family’s postpartum experience is unique. I provide care that is inclusive, respectful, and judgment-free, supporting individuals and families of all backgrounds and identities. Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, you will be treated with empathy, respect, and attention to your needs.

Cost of Care

Postpartum care with a Registered Midwife is fully covered by MSP (BC Health Insurance Plans) — there is no cost for eligible residents.
